Biography
Tony Papenfuss (born March 26, 1950) is an American television and film actor best known for his role as one of the brothers Darryl on the sitcom Newhart. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Papenfuss gained recognition for his deadpan comedic presence as the darker-haired, silent Darryl, a character who became a pop culture reference point throughout the 1980s. Before his breakout on Newhart, he appeared in films such as Escape from New York and Firefox. Following Newhart’s run, Papenfuss enjoyed a steady career with guest appearances on popular TV shows including Seinfeld, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Murphy Brown, Roswell, and Providence, as well as various television movies. His film work includes roles in How to Kill a Mockingbird, Factotum, Sweet Land, The Jingle Dress, I Am Not a Serial Killer, and others.
