Kate Bateman
Biography
Kate Bateman is an Actress, Director and Producer based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Born in the UK, she spent most of her life in Edmonton, where she studied acting in the BA and BFA programs at the University of Alberta. During those years, she co-founded the company Theatre Plastic and learned how to splice 16mm film stock with the good people at FAVA.
Memorable theatre credits playing King Lear in KING LEAR, Ophelia in HAMLET, Karen in SPEED-THE-PLOW, Varya in THE CHERRY ORCHARD, Queen Elizabeth 1 in THE CLINK, Chick Boyle in Crimes of the Heart, Claire Zachanassian in THE VISIT, and Heloise in the one-woman show she adapted and produced, entitled HELOISE, OBSERVED ONE NIGHT AT THE MOMENT OF TEMPTATION. She played the lead in an epic short film, TORA, starring opposite David Suzuki in his first-ever acting role; co-stars and co-produces the ongoing web series THE ACTRESS DIARIES, which earned her a Leo Award; and cherishes both her therapeutic work with VANCOUVER PLAYBACK THEATRE and ongoing creation work with THE ASSEMBLY, an all-womxn clown troupe in Vancouver.
